So I've been thinking lately that there is a different between music and music. Let me explain what I mean from the depths of my soul. There is a difference between the music you love and listen to all the time, and that music that comes on and you're like *ahh* and you just want to cry! It's not a song you hear often, (well it might be depending what radio station you listen to) but it's that song that is so effortlessly timeless and it puts you in the position of just thinking about your adolescence, your life, your time. I think its time that i shamelessly let the world know about my song choices that reflect this feeling. I can't explain this feeling; I hope you know what I mean. It's like when you see your favourite band live and you want to cry. Or you are up late at night watching Pretty in Pink or some other 80's movie, and you think to yourself, I fucking love this movie, but I fucking hate it so much because I can't live it. The Big Pink are an electro-rock duo from London, England, with "A Brief History of Love" their first official album, they are quickly gaining respect from college radios and fans worldwide. A Brief History of Love was released in September of 2009, and shortly after, singles such as "Velvet", "Tonight" and "Too Young to Love" their album is a mix of melodramatic independent rock, fused together with some electronic vibes and a topping of English accent from singer and guitarist Robbie Furze. The Big Pink took inspiration for their name from The Band. This album obviously being love-themed, brings out feelings of loss, love, pain, and so forth, but not in the usual sense. On February 25, 2009, The Big Pink won the prestigious Philip Hall Radar Award for best new act at the NME Shockwave Awards. Check out their myspace, or follow them on twitter.

The Polymorphines!

After their second release entitled "Transistor Sistor" I was anticipating their journey all the way from Ottawa, Ontario to Windsor for their first show at Phog Lounge. Upon arriving, I did not know what to expect and surprisingly the band was also excited to meet me and welcomed me with open arms. As we got talking, they told me all about their influences - the Rolling Stones being their primary - and discovered that although each band member's favourite music is completely different from each other's, their music is still a successful blend of blues, classic rock and fast guitar chords. The band also recently joined twitter to keep up with the world of music and record labels, if you are interested in following, here is the link. They have also received numerous positive feedback from Exlcaim! Magazine, !Earshot Magazine, the Ottawa citizen and more. Upon hitting the stage at Phog, I was super excited to see what they would bring. My expectations were correct: their live sound is triple-times better than the recorded music. I can also happily say that they gave me a shout out when performing a cover of Hotel Yorba by the White Stripes which made me feel included and happy. I hope that their stay in Windsor has been wonderful, and I'm glad they got to know some Windsorites before departing to Guelph today. If you haven't already checked out their myspace, please do so.
